At approximately 9:50 am this morning, Crook County Fire and Rescue was dispatched to a working structure fire on NW 8th Street, in Prineville. Arriving crews found a fire that had started on the garage and made its way into the attic of the home. Fire crews from Crook County Fire and Rescue’s main station responded to the fire, with two structure engines and an ambulance, totaling 15 firefighters.
Crews are still on scene working to control the incident, however there is no active fire at this time. The home is a total loss, displacing two adults and several pets. Red Cross has been brought in to help the residents of the home.
After an investigation, it is determined that the fire started in the garage after a small engine backfired, igniting flammable liquids that were near the engine.
