Crook County Fire and Rescue was dispatched for a working structure fire on NE 10th Street in Prineville at 11:46 am on January 23, 2017. Crews arrived to find a fire burning in the kitchen of one of the units of a 4-plex apartment. 12 firefighters responded in 2 engines and 2 ambulances. The occupants of the fire apartment evacuated when the fire started. There was extensive damage to the kitchen of the apartment. The Red Cross assisted the family of 4 displaced by the fire. The 3 other apartments in the 4-plex were not damaged. The fire was caused by grease igniting while deep frying food. The fire spread to the rest of the kitchen with some extension into the attic.
